Coming out of the fog..

Between the lingering effects of anesthesia and the heavy duty pain medications, Cory is having trouble coming out of the fog. However, for the last two days, he has been more coherent and cognitive of his surroundings.
Thursday morning when he woke up, he spent hours (actually, half of the day!) trying to convince us that this was all a dream. That he was actually still at home asleep in the barn with his dog Rusty. That I just needed to wake him up, and everything would be fine. When logic wouldn't prevail, he just pulled me into his "dream" saying, that I was in the barn asleep with him and Rusty as well. Later that night, when he was much more coherent, we talked about the dream. He looked at me, and with a very anguished look, said, "Well, it was a good thought!".
Yes, it was a great thought! How we all wish we could just wake up from this "dream", or any particular challenge or trial that we are going through. I know that I have stood there, after adversity has struck, and tried to wish it away. I know that the only way we can find peace is to know that another has taken that burden for us. There is a Mormon Message, "Lifting Burdens" that shows us how, and by whom our burdens can be eased. From Alma 7:12 it reads, "...that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities."
In that infinite atonement that our Savior brought about, he knows how to comfort us perfectly. We look around at so many that are suffering so much more than us.
May we all find peace in adversity is my wish tonight (and every night!)

  1. I think anytime there is a tramatic event we all want to wake up from the dream. But whatever Heavenly Father's plan is in all of this is something that will be of benefit. It's just hard to see what it is when we are in the middle of it. And you are right, the Savior is the only one who can comfort us perfectly. Thank you for your continued example of strength and for the posts about Cory, you are in our thoughts and prayers always.
